FALL IN PRICE OF STOCK.

7/ ON LAMBS; 10/ ON SHEEP. The great difference between’ prices realised for mutton and lamb this export season compared with last will be seen in the following'table:— Wethers. Lambs.’

Wellington prices are taken as a basis. Canterbury lamb quotations are higher. For last season, these ranged from llfd to 13d, the season opening at 12fd and closing at ll|d. Canterbury export season has not yet opened. The current prices given by the Meat Export Board arenas follow:— Wethers. Ewes. Lambs.

These prices are for 561 b and under for wether and ewes and 361 b and under ftor prime woolly lambs; second quality is lower by Id to £d per pound In the case of mutton and Id to |d in the case of lambs. Several factors have to be taken into account in considering the reduction in prices realised by stock, and among them are the fall in the price of wool, the greatly augmented South American exports of chilled beef to England, also the dislocation of trade caused by the overseas shipping strike in Australia and New Zealand. Heavy shipments ’of Australian lamb, that should have been dispatched much earlier in the season, are now coming on to the market, causing it to sag. i The lessened return to the New Zealand producer this season will represent roughly 7/ on iamb§ and 10/ on sheep.
