PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs Hogg (Church street) has returned from Wellington. Mrs G. R. Sykes (Mt. Bruce) has been visiting Wellington. Mrs Hugh Perry (Cole street) has been visiting Wellington. Mrs J. Common (Hastings) is rhe guest of Mrs Handyside (Lansdowne). Mrs C. F. Vallanee and Mrs J. Wardell have been visiting Wellington. • Miss Thoms (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs A. B, Bunny (Bunny street). Mr and Mrs W. H. Judd (Pownall street) have returned from a visit to Otago. Mrs Finney (Nelson) is visiting her mother, Mrs A. J. Hathaway (Cole street). Miss McKillop (Wellington) is visiting her niece, Mrs C. O. Hodgins (Coradine street). Mrs Peat (Wanganui) is the guest of her sister, Mrs J. W. Kershaw (Martinborough.) Nurse Kummer has returned to Masterton after a prolonged holiday at Martinborough. Mrs C. Warden Browne (Amberley, Canterbury) has been visiting Mrs A. D. McLeod (Martinborough). Miss M. Stringfellow, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Stringfellow, of Moron, has returned from Dunedin where she- has completed her studies. Mrs Eric McLaren (Ihuraua), who has been in the Hobson street hospital, Wellington, for the last two months, has returned to her home much better in health. At the meeting of the Featherston School Committee it was reported that-the recent children’s ball realised £l7, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Card and her band of eo-workers. Mrs S. F. Beard (Auckland and formerly of Masterton), has been the guest of the Misses Vallanee (Cole street) and is now visiting Mrs W. G. Beard (“Ovingdean.”) The wedding took place recently of Mr W. R. Ogilvy, of Foxton, and Miss Wilkinson, of Masterton. Mr and Mrs Ogilvy are spending their honeymoon in The South Island prior to taking up their residence in Foxton. An engagement of Wairarapa interest is that of Mr Eric Marshall .Waldon, third son of Mr and Mrs H. Waldon (Greytown), to Miss Elva May Heatley (Opunake). Mr Waldon was formerly headmaster at Tablelands school, and was also well known in musical circles.

A most delightful party was given al the residence of Mrs D. H. Rutherford (Pownall street) by the mothers of the kindergarten children of St. Matthew’s School, in return for the party given by the pupils last year. From a splendid Christmas tree, each child received a present. A dainty afternoon tea was served and the children enjoyed games on .the lawn.

The death has occurred at Woodville of Mrs Annie Meredith, widow of the’late Mr James Shepherd Meredith, aged 65. She had lived for the past eight years in Woodville, and leaves a family of three sons—Mr W J. Meredith, of the Post Office staff at Auckland (the well-known Rugby player and referee), Mr G. D. Meredith (Hamilton), and Mr P. B. Meredith (Taumarunui).

The annual display of the work of the kindergarten of St. Matthew’s School was held yesterday and was attended Jjy many parents and friends. The Rev. W. Bullock and Mr A. C. Major gave short addresses and heartily praised the work of Miss Hind, who had instructed the children so well. Miss F. Lazarus (Principal) also spoke. A large Christmas tree was in evidence and the children gave the parents beautiful presents, niade by the little ones.

The death took place at Melbourne last week' of Mrs J. V. Brown, wife of Mr J. Vigor Brown, who was for many years Mayor and member of Parliament for Napier. The late Mrs Brown was Mr Brown’s second wife, and took a deep interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of Napier and its people. She was married to Mr Brown in 1895, arid has, ever since, been a prominent figure in Napier’s public life. Both in connection with the South African war as well as the late world war, Mrs Brown was one of the most active and energetic workers in connection with the departing troops.
