SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (“The Age” Special.) School Association. At a meeting of ex-pupils of the Carterton School the following officers wore elected: —Patron, Mrs Moore, South Carterton, (the school’s first teacher); president, Mr John Stevens (an old boy and member of the school committee); vice-presidents, all former headmasters of the school; joint hon. secretaries, Miss I. Wise and Mr W. F. Dudson; hon. treasurer, Mr Arthur Krahagen; committee, Mrs Crawley, Misses D. Armstrong, H. Welch, I). Dudson, Messrs Wilfred and Walter Thomas. The annual subscription to the Association was fixed at 2/6, and a social gathering is to be held early in September. Congratulations. Mr John Vicary, of Featherston, celebrated his 91st birthday on Wednesday, hale and Mr Vicary was born at Taburn, St. Mary’s and came to New Zealand in the ship Montmorency in charge of some merino sheep for the late Mr B. Bidwill. Ex-Headmasters. Well-known names associated with the Carterton School as headmasters in days gone by are Messrs A. Armstrong, Samuels, Dempsey, Mayhew, Braunn, McDermid, Bennett, Kay, Cowles, Burns and Foss. Golf. A bogey competition will be played on the Greytown links to-morrow for the captain’s trophy. Chalmers at a farewell evening on the occasion of her departure for Petone, and pre l sented her with a leather travelling case. Rural Mail The new rural mail delivery between Greytown and Morison’s Bush will commence on Monday next. Senior Cadets. On Monday next a continuous course of daylight training will be held in Greytown for six days for senior cadets.
