THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1925. RIVER ENCROACHMENT.

When are the various parties interested going to come together and co-op-erate in the correction of the Waipoua erosion at th!e back of the Lansdowne school? The serious damage that is being done there whenever a fresh occurs, apart from the unsightly appearance of the flooded and scoured area of the park which is subject to periodic floods are matters which the town ought to insist on remedying. The Education Board is understood to have approved of the expenditure of £lOO or so to lead the water gently away from the Lansdowne school bank in the hope that it will go complacently elsewhere, but as the proposed new channel passes under the hospital bridge there would still be a danger to that structure, of which the Lansdowne approach is already undermined. This is not a £lOO job for one of the interested parties. It is a matter for a conference between the Borough Council, the Hospital Board, the Education Department and the Beautifying Society, with their engineers, so that a comprehensive scheme dealing with the whole river from Hope street to the cemetery may be evolved and the cost estimated, together with a valuation of' the sections affected. This is .distinctly a community matter and the bodies concerned cannot hope to see it solved by any one of them piecemeal 1 - ,
