The report of the Wairarapa South sub-committee of the the Acclimatisation Society impresses upon license-holders the necessity .ef taking a more lively interesting in acclimatisation matters in general, a» it is only by so doing that the fast diminishing remnant of our game can be consrved, and while giving what game remains a chance to increse, at the same time provide a reasonable amount of sport for license-holders. “A certain amount of poaching and robbing of nests still goes on, and we would again impress upon all who desiro to see our game conserved the necessity of immediately reporting to the authorities any case of poaehng coming unear their notice.

“Pheasants liberated in various parts of South Wairarapa are, according to reports, increasing, and a further twenty birds have been allotted this district for this year, but their liberation has been held over until the close of the ensuing ' shooting season. In addition some 40 birds have been allotted to private persons for liberation on their respective properties, and with a reasonable amount of protection for a year or two these birds should provide a fair amont of sport. ■ “Duck and swan seem to be still decreasing, and the matter of having one or more close seasons will have to be taken seriously into consideration in the near future.

“The fishing season now drawing to a close is about the worst experienced. The first few weeks gave every promise to nglers, but for some unaccountable reason, after the first month the fish seemed to disappear, and very few, if any, decent baskets have been obtained sined.

Acting on the recommendations passed at our last annual mepting your eomfittee have sought information through the parent body as regards to the lake, rivers and various reserves, but have met with very little success. Enquiries are still in progress as regards several reserves and access thereto. At time of writing this report the lake is dosed and the water high, and pospects fof those who will be shooting on areas unprotected b£ stop-banks are not very promising.”
