GREATER PRODUCTION.

NEW ZEALAND’S ADVANTAGE.

SHOULD LEAD WORLD IN QUALITY.

"The prosperity of this Dominion depends upon the production of our! primary products, and it should be our main aim to increase these resources,” says the annual report. »f the Meat t’roducers Board-

"Although furthest away from Smithfield, New Zealand has many benefits to offset this handicap in the competition on the Smitheld Market. In the first place nature has placed her in a temperate zone, surrounded by an immense expanse of ocean, whieh -has a marked effect, not only on the cliamte by way of a uniform temperature, but the air permeated with the salt ozone is of immense benefits to the soil and also on the constitution of livestock, with the result that to-day, our frozen meat products lead the world ’in Quality. This Dominion is also blest with . an abundance of sunshine and plenty of water—two most essential factors for the well-being of livestock. The! suitability of the country in soil and climate to grow English grass pastures may be considered one of our most valuable resources, and produce* the quality of meat desired in Great Britain. There is no country in the world where greater dependence is placed on grass pastures for the production of national wealth, than in our Dominion. We have not yet, however, fully realised what enormous resources we have in these pastures. Their full value cannot be assessed til we go in for more phobphatic topdressing. "The great increase in the output of dairy produce during the last ten years has been largely brought about by the top dressing of pastures. The top dressing of our sheep pastures will do the same for our meat and wool industry. A start has been made in some districts with wonderfully good results. As much of our sheep country is hilly and broken, top dressing has to be done by hand, but experience has already proved that where the country is not. too broken or inaccessible, this can be done at moderate cost for labour.”
