SENIOR. The Wairarapa senior competition is nearing the close, and the final of the championship will be played next Saturday between United and Masterton, each having obtained a win on Saturday. UNITED v. CARLTON.

This match was concluded on Saturday and resulted in a three-point win for United, who, the previous week, had compiled 176, and had secured seven Carlton wickets for 89. Carlton continued on Saturday, but could only carry their score to 102, thus being 74 runs in arrears on the first innings. United in their second innings declared with four wickets down for 153. Phillips played a vigorous innings for 55 not out (including 5 sixes and 4 fours), and A. Hoar 37 not out (6 fours) and E. Bundle 35 (6 fours) played freely for their runs. Carlton required 228 to save defeat, but their last wicket fell a few minutes before time. Their second innings realised 149 (B. Continuing their second innings on Saturday with 8 wickets down for ■ 25 Masterton compiled the good total , of 203, to which O’Dowd (42), Miles (75) and Montgomery (23) were the chief contributors.
