SCULLING.
GOODSELL WORLD CHAMPION. MORE NEW ZEALAND SUCCESS!®. (Received 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 22.—The, world’s sculling championship was rowed in fine weather on ehoppy water. From a good' start Goodsell took the lead, each rowing 36 to the minute. At the quarter-mile Goodsell lost the grip of his right scull, but recovered. Before reaching the half-mile Goodsell was half a length in front of McDevitt, and gradually increased the lead, being two lengths ahead at threequarters of a mile and four lengths at the mile. The strokes of both men at this stage were reduced to 27. The first mile was covered in 7.25. From this on Goodsell lengthened the lead and won by 10. lengths. He rowed much stronger than McDevitt, and, after the two miles, which were rowed in 14.25, was not troubled, and won in 22.20.
Two Wins for Dominion. The New Zealanders participated in the St. Ignatius College regatta. Their presence resulted in a much larger crowd than usual. The races were rowed at flood tide. Challenge eights.—Mosman went to the front, and at 300 yards led by flength, rowing 37 to New Zealand’s 36. Shortly after the three-quarter mile poet was passed Mosman faltered a little, and New Zealand gradually drew ahead and, maintaining the lead, won by with North Shore 10 lengths back. 5.8 4-5.
Inter-Dominion fours.—At the imile the New Zealand crews were on even terms, leading Mosman by a length. Brown’s crew was two lengths in front at the half-mile, and, taking advantage of the tide, were' never afterwards headed, and won by Slength. 5.54. Handicap sculls. —St. Clair was called upon to concede too long starts and was the last to finish. Goulding, after leading all the way, won easily in 6.44. -(P.A.)
