Mr and Mrs D. Warren, of Turn* nganui, have left on a three week’fl motoring trip to Taupo and Rotorua. The Rev. J. Gardiner Miller (Napier) has been appointed editor of the' Congregational Magazine. The Rev. G. King (Lansdowne) was on a pastoral visit to Eketahuna on Monday.

Mr Hornblow, Mayor of Dargaville, will contest the Bay of Islands seat against Col. Allan Bell.

Mr Renall is relieving at the Bank of New Zealand, Eketahuna, during Mr Hannah’s absence. Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., who sat at Featherston yesterday, is now in Wellington acting as relieving magistrate for a short period.

Mr W. J. Tennent (Essex street) and Miss Tennent left on Tuesday for Dunedin, where they will reside ia future.

The engagement is announced of Nan, daughter of Mr and Mrs John McLeod, of Martinborough, to George Barclay, son of the late Mr and Mrs T. S. Hardy( of Waimate.

A requisition is being circulated ia Greytown asking Mr D. P. Loasby t<f offer his services as Mayor. Mr Loasby was previously Mayor of Greytown fon several terms.

Messrs T. Moss and R. McLeod are members of the committee which has been set up by the Wellington Education Board to give evidence before the Agricultural Education Committee.

The engagement is announced of Lalla, daughter of Mr and Mrs C. R. Caverhill, of “Glendhu, ” Martinbosough, to Lieutenant W. G. Gentry, N.Z. Staff Corps, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F. C. Gentry, of Khandallah, Wellington. The appointment is announced of Mr Michael Hawkins, Inspector of Prisons and Director of Prison Works, to the position of Controller-General of Prisons, in succession to the late Mr C. E. Matthews. Mr Hawkins jsined the prison service as a warder in 1885, and is the first officer in the service who has risen from the rank* to the control of the Department.
