DEFENCE OF SINGAPORE.

STILL UNDER CONSIDERATION.

NO INFORMATION YET. (Received 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, March 17.—1 n the Commons, replying to Commander Kenworthy, Sir L. Worthington Evans (Secretary for War) said that the question of the defence required to protect the Singapore base was still being considered by the Committee of Imperial Defence. It was impossible to make a statement at present in regard to tho cost or the date of commencing the work. The question as to whether the present defences were sufficient or must be increased would depend on the Committe’s report. Brig.-General Brown asked whether the Government would consider approaching Australia and New Zealand with a view to their helping. Sir L. Worthington Evans said that that did not arise out of the question. —(Reuter.)
