TARARUA POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

At last week's meeting of the Tararua Power oßard the engineer (Mr R. L. Gray) reported:—Pole Contract: 7 poles overcarried by one of the boats have come to hand. Advice has been reeeivd of the arrival of A further 100 poles. The 50 k.v.a. transformer has been received, completing Messrs A. D. Riley and Co's contract. Owing to over 95 possible consumers taking a supply further small size transformers will be required. One firm of contractors has completed 62 installations and tho other 10. Two tenders for wiring tho block of installations south of Eketahuna have been received. The tender of Messrs Smith, Ritchie and Co., at £447 6/ was accepted. 78 poles have been erected, chiefly for service lines, making the total erected to date 3142. Nino sets of telephone services have been placed underground between Mangamaire and Pahiatua. Trees have also boon cut for the erection of lines as required. Service lines have been run on the Hukanui-Hamua line, at the Hukanui end, and from the main lino between Konini and Mangamutu. Tho 11,009 transformer at Mangamaire has been put in position and connected up. Twelve transformers now dried out have been erected in the Nifeaha aid Rongokokako areas. The Eketahuna plant has been run satisfactorily.

It was decided to thank the Eketahuna County Council for its offer of access to the valuation roll.

The electrical engineer at Shannor wrote that power would be available at Mangamaire about the 15th. TH engineer stated that it would prs bably be another week before the cur rent was available. As soon as the power was available tho districts of Nireaha, Newman, Mangamaire, Mangamutu, Mangatainoka, and Tiraumea road would b.e ready to switch on. Several settlers in the Kohinui and Ngaturi district wrote asking that a survey of their district be given effect to in view of ‘ the developments at Rongomai.—Agreed to.

The Pahiatua Town Clerk wrote asking if an extension of lighting could be made in the Pahiatua bof : ough till 12 p.m. and the lights be turned on every night.—lt was decided that both boroughs have the light till 4 a.m. as soon as the current if available, the engineer stating that this would involve no extra cost,

It was decided that applications be invited for the position of office accountant at a salary of £4 per week. It was decided that meters be read monthly as heretofore in the boroughs and quarterly in the country. In respect of tenant consumers in the country it was decided that a deposit of £2 be required.—( Ex' press.”)
