Mr J. D. C. Crewe has consented t* accept nomination for the Pahiatua Mayoralty. The Mayor (Mr O. N. C. Pragnell) is visiting Wellington to-day to attend <a meeting of the Executive of the Municipal Association. A farewell evening to Dr. W. H. Bull, who leaves Masterton to-morrow, was given by Mr E. S. Tomlinson (Pownall street) last evening. Herr. C. Buching, German ConsulGeneral for Australia, New Zealand and the Islands, arrived at Auckland yesterday on an official visit. Mr T. Hodgins has been granted six months’ leave of absence from the Tararua Power Board as he will be away on a trip to the Old Country. Miss A. Stubbs, home science mistress at the Masterton Technical School, has accepted a position at the Hamilton Technical School, and will leave Masterton in a month’s time.

Mr E. V. Dumbleton, of the subeditorial staff of the “New Zealand Times,” son of Mr and Mrs J. Dumbleton ( Xircnha), has passed the final section for the Diploma of Journalism.

The staff of the Bank of Australasia on Friday presented Mr D. M. Montgomery, who on Saturday retired from the position of manager of the Masterton branch, with a crystal salad bowl.

Mr W. L. Lowrie, American Consul for New Zealand arrived at Auckland from Sydney yesterday, accompanied by Mrs Lowrie. They were last in Greece, where they witnessed five changes in Government in four years.

Cr. R. Russell, who, with Mrs Bussell and family, leaves shortly for a trip round the world, was last evening farewellcd by members of the Masterton Borough Council and an appreciation of his services while six years oa the council was placed on record.

The engagement is announced and the marriage will take place shortly of Dr. P. Cousin Davie, B.Sc., M. 8., of New Plymouth, son of Mr Robert Davie (Timarn), and Miss Janet Morrison, only daughter of Mr David Morrison, of Samoa. Dr. Davie is a brother of the Bev. John Davie (Masterton). •
