NEW POLICE SCANDAL.
IN MELBOURNE FORCE. DETECTIVES SUSPENDED. MELBOURNE, March 16.— The Chief Commissioner of Police has suspended from duty Detective-Inspector Olholm (head of the railway detective branch), Detective O’Sullivan (second in charge), and Detectives McPherson and Fowler.
It is alleged that the four men visited a suburban hotel and seized a quantity of goods which they alleged were Stolen. The proprietor, who denied all knowledge of the goods, which he said were left at the hotel by a man, was threatened with police action and, rather than face proceedings, stated that he agreed to a certain suggestion and a cash sum run* ning into four figures changed hands. The four detectives are suspended pending inevstigation.—(P.A.)
