AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES.
PARK SPORTS ON SATURDAY. The Masterton Borough Council last evening received from the Wairarapa Sub-Centre N.Z.A.A.A. a letter of appreciation of the Council’s action in granting the free use of the Oval for the recent evening meeting, at which the Australian athletes appeared. A. further letter was received from the same body applying for the use of the Oval next Saturday, when the Australians will reappear tor an afternoon meeting.
Cr. Kemp, chairman of the Pari Committee, in moving that the Park be granted free with the right to charge admission, stated that the Australians had proved themselves champions and popular with the crowd, and it was an honour to their visitors for the city fathers to give the body controlling the fixture the free use of the park. A big guarantee was required to get the visitors here, and the expenses were always big for gatherings of this nature. The Sub-centre had proved a useful institution for the town, and he wished to see them having something in their favour for once. The motion was unanimously agreed to.
