PERSONAL NOTES. Dr and Mrs G. 11. Uttlcy are spending the (holidays at Herbcrtvillc. Mr-and Mrs James Hutchison (Dunbdin) are visiting Martinborough. Mrs J. T. Pain (Invercargill) is slaying with her daughter Mrs ,T. H. (Renail street.) Miss A. Bary left at the beginning of the week for a holiday in the North. Mis Douglas Hunter (Auckland) is' visiting her mother, Mrs W.' E. Allen (Carterton). Mrs Lobau has returned to Eketa huna from Palmerston North. Her health is much, improved. Mrs Cockerill (Masterton) has been for tho pant few weeks the guets of Mrs P. E. Wingfield, (Pahiatua). Mrs N. Fowler (Hastings) is the guest of her aunts, Mrs Spratt and Miss Wyctt (Greytown) during the Christmas holiday's. Miss Cumberworth, of the Masterton West School teaching staff, left on Monday to spend her vacation at Te Kuiti, and Auckland. Tho engagement is announced of Miss M. P. Grey (Eketahuna) to Mr C. M. White, postmaster at Otorohanga and formerly of Eketahuna. The engagement is announced of Miss Ruby Wenden, daughter of Mjs and the late" R. Wenden, of Greytown, to Mr T. J. McSweOney, Wellington, late of Chatham Islands. Miss M. Brown (Masterton) has duringt the last fortnight been the guest of Mrs F. E. Fleury (Mangatainoka) and Mrs Godfrey Taylor, (Pahiatua). Another wedding of popular interest, is to take place during the first week-on January, when Miss Isabel Ellingham only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. C. Ellingham (Makairo) will be married to Mr Vial, (Ngaturi). Mr and Mrs W. A. Cittadini (Pahiatua) have left for Christchurch where the latter will stay with, her sister. Mr Cittadini will go into camp at Ashburton with the boys of his Bible Class. Mr and Mrs Todhunter, who arc leaving Tane, were the recipients of a suit case as a token of the esteem in which they were held by their many friends.

Miss Esme North, who has been appointed to the staff of the new Mount Victoria CoUege’for Girls, has had a brilliant career. After taking her degree she was awarded a travelling scholarship, and was awaj two years in England and on the Continent, where.she took another degree at one of the leading Universities in France. Miss K. Kilmartin, who (has been about ten years assistant teacher at Featherston, and who is about to give up the profession, was made a presentation on Friday afternoon by her follow teachers „ and by her pupils. Miss Kilmartin will be greatly missed xn the school. On Friday afternoon, the .storm, the Dyerville Hall was crowded on the occasion of a presentation to Miss A. 8. The death oceured at Palmerston North on Monday last, of Mrs Mary Emmeline Smith, aged 89. - Deceased was born at Picton, New South Wales, and came to Now Zealand with her husbgnd, the late Major Smith, in the early forties, the latter being in tho service with the regular forces*in the Maori War.
