A SANDBAGGER.

SENSATION AT RANGIOTU. PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 17 — The only topic of conversation in the Uangiotu district is a startling adventure which befel three daughters of a well-known resident some nights since. All three girls were sleeping in a room, the window of which had been propped up by a book, when the young lady nearest was awakened by the book dropping to the floor. Her terrified gaze fell upon a shadowy male figure, which/proceeded cautiously to raise the sash. The girl Was speechless with fright, and the man, or youth, eventually .dropped quietly tc the floor, and moved menacingly to her sister’s couch. Furtive but frantic effqrts to awaken the sleeper on the part of the girl proving unavailing, she sprang from thb room. The whole house was aroused, but when her, parents came, the intruder had fled. Investigations' in the grounds led to the discovery of art old hat, which had been filled with sand, tied with string and secured to a stout stick. It Was apparently the intention of the midnight visitor to use this, and he must have dropped it in his flight. (P. A.)
