STUD STOCK FOR S. AMERICA.

LARGE SHIPMENT FROM WAIRARAPA. ROMNEYS AND LINCOLNS. In view of the successful representation of New Zealand sheep at the recent international stock exposition at Palermo, Argctiuc, it, is.interesting to note that t’lio export with the South American countries has already been stimulated as a result. A large shipment of Romney rams and ewes, and Corriedalc and Lincoln rams, was despatched to Uruguay and Argentina by the Tainui last week. Included were many excellent Romneys and Lincolns, frohn. Wairarapa breeders, shipped by Messrs Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd., Ten rams arc placed in each crate in which they arc kept and ’Ted until they arrive at their destination, which in the case of Uruguay is 20 days and the Argentine 23 days. The shipment should result in extending further afield the good name enjoyed by the Wairarapa for the production of the most improved types of stud sheepThe selections were made from the following studs:— Romney Rams. —Messrs Q. Donald ("Alloa” Featherston), W. H. Buick & Son (“Daisyburn”), G. E. Allen ("Tipua”), and C. Wagland, (Masterton). Romney ' Ewes. —Messrs Q. Donald, W. H. Buick & Son, and C. Wagland. Lincoln Rams, —Messrs A. D. McMaster (Featherston), A. E. Anderson (Clareville, and W. Howard Booth (Carterton). The shipment comprised 106 head altogether. In. view of the fact that South America papers indicated that there was practically no demand for imported English Romney and Lincoln sheep at recent sales, the increased demand for New Zealand sheep should prove satisfactory to breeders here. Stud Bull For Australia. Although the demand for stud dairy cattle from Australia has in the past been largely for Fresians, a demand is also developing now for New cZalandbred Jerseys. The latest sale recorded is of the stud bull, Merriamber of Puketapu, bred by Messrs W H. Booth & Sons, “Middle Run,” Carterton, which is to be shipped to New South Wales by Messrs Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd. early in January. Mr. Booth, throughout his breeding operations, stuck very closely to this strain which he intensified in his herd by careful lino-broeding. The sire of this bull is Merry May of Puketapu, sired by Mere’s Conqueror (a bull sold on Mr Booth's behalf by Messrs Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd., for 400 guineas), a son of the former world’s champion butter-fat heifer Mere.

Messrs Booth & Sons are to be congratulated on having sent a bull of their breeding into such an important dairying district Camperdown, New South Wales, particularly as the purchaser, Mr G. E. Cooke, has the outstanding Jersey herd in that locality.
