THE IRISH TREATY.

INTER-EMPIRE RELATIONS. NOT SUBJECT TO LEAGUE. (Beed. 7.45 p.m.) GENEVA, Dec. 15.—The League Secretariat has issued the text of a letter from the British Foreign Office dated November 27, in connection with the registration of the AngloIrish. Treaty of December 1921, at the Free State Government’s request.

The letter reiterates that the Government consistently held that neither the Coyenant nor any conventions concluded under the League’s auspices are intended to govern inter-Empirc relations, therefore they consider that Article 18 of the Covenant does not apply to the document under notice. —(A. and N.Z.)

Free State’s Duty. (Recd. 9.35 p.m.) LONDON, Decc. 16.—The “Daily Telegraph’s” Dublin correspondent reports that the Free State Governs ment has issued a statement pointing out that it was the Free State’s duty, as a member of the League, to register the treaty made with England, and failure to do so, would have meant repudiation of the Covenant.

The “Daily Express’s” Dublin correspondent says that some quarters there regard the British action as a move to prevent an appeal to the League on the boundary question.— (A. and N.Z.) )
