Accounts amounting to £3573 were passed for payment. One tender was received for supply of metal on Alfredton Weber road.— This was not accepted. It was decided to invite fresh tenders with a view to labour on the co-operation system, and that the Puketoi-Utewai work bo re-advertised.

In reply to a letter from the Public Works Department it was decided to reply that the Council did not purpose going on with the Alfredton drainage, but if the Department had a scheme for draining the Post Office, effective for the township area, and approved, the Council would be prepared to subsidise the work to the extent of £4O.

The Wairarapa Automobile Association wrote asking if the Council would fence the bank at Begbie’s corner (approach to Newman bridge) and offering to supply the material if the Council would undertake the work; also that the approach to the bridge be fenced; and if the Council would ereet sign posts that were being supplied.—The matter was left in the engineer’s hands. It was decided to fence the north side of the bridge approach. The Main Highways Board returned approved specifications for metalling on Alfredton rouds, but stating that the renewal of culverts on the road would be regarded as maintenance.— (‘ ‘ Express.' ’)
