Mr W. M. Page, architect to the Wairarapa High School, was on a visit to Masterton yesterday. Mt R. S. Hanna, Masterton County Clerk, was visiting Wellington yesterday on county business.

The Borough Council last night permit ted the Town Clerk, Mr T. T. Denbee, io take his annual leave over the Christinas holidays. Mr G. Harold Srtiith, of Pahiatua, Vho recently underwent an operation in Wellington for appendicitis, is progressing very favourably.

Mr T. A. Russell, Sanitary Inspector, was last night granted permission to take his leave immediately preceding tho Sanitary Inspectors’ Dominion Conference in January’.

The Minister of Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) intends to pay a visit to the Auckland district in the New Year. Air McLeod desires to make a personal inspection of the Rangitaiki swan.p drainage area.

Mr F. W. Bevan, accountant at the Wan; anui branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed manager of the Pahiatua branch. He was for a number of years secretary to the Board of Directors.

Mr N. Stead, the well-known Southland footballer, who was vice-captain of the New Zealand native team in Australia, has b?en transferred to the Wanganui branch of the Bank of Now Zealand. He will play for a Wanganui team next season.

M. Skalski, the Polish pianist, who succeeded M. Verbrugghen as conductor of the New South Wales State Orchestra, and subsequently had rather a disastrous tour of New Zealand, has been appointed artistic director, coach and conductor of the Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company in England.

The Masterton. West School Committee decided last night to write to Miss E. Ball, who has resigned from the staff in view of her approaching marriage, thanking her for the excellent work done by her at the school. The headmaster (Mr H. Miller) said that in the classrooms and every branch of school life Miss Ball had been of great value to the school.
