GUARD YOUR FINANCE.

A MINISTER’S WARNING.

“In formally declaring your show open,” said the Hon. A D. McLeod, Minister'of Lands, at Gore, “I want to say one thing, and that is, ‘guard your finance.’

“This year, with all its prospects of good prices, will not last for ever. Old settlers have seen ups and downs, and we will get them again in»the future. But if the people make good use of the profit they are now getting, then the future of the country is assured. There is a tendency, unfortunately, perhaps, not to hold to what we are now enjoying, and while I sincerely trust there will be more than one or two years of good times, if we have too lengthy a period of prosperity, it will not be beneficial to the country. Therefore, let us all establish ourselves well and pay off any mortgages and overdrafts while the period of prosperity is here.”—(Applause.)
