Despite the very unfavourable weather the Solway School bazaar, held in the showgrounds produce hall on Saturday afternoon, proved a great success. Business was brisk from the very start, the hall being crowded with buyers all the afternoon. The takings amounted to £6O. The wellfilled Dutch Fair stalls, kindly lent by the Municipal Band, the prettily decorated Christmas tree and the dainty afternoon tea tables, made a very attractive display. Mr Nelson’s side-show in the adjoining hall proved a source of interest and amusement to many children and parents At frequent intervals during the afternoon the Masterton Municipal Juvenile Band, under Bandmaster R. Wyke, gave selections which were much enjoyed; the precision and intonation came as a revelation to everyone, and did great credit to the conductor. The school children also sang a varied selection of songs, which were much appreciated. Great credit is due to the organisers and helpers for their untiring zeal, and also to the residents of Solway and Waingawa, who evidently take a keen interest in their growing school.

The stall-holders were:—Produce, Mesdames Henshaw, Miles and Nelson; plain and fancy, Mesdames Hall, Power and Moore; Christmas tree, Misses Wallis and McKenzie; sweets, Mrs Kenny and ex-pupils; cakes, Mesdames Price, R. Jackson and Blake; afternoon tea, Mesdames A. T. Jackson and Bungate, and Misses Henshaw and Jackson; jumble, Mesdames Bruder and Cameron; ice cream, Airs Woollett; side-show, Messrs Nelson and Brader.
