“LOOSE HEAD!”
WHAT IS IT? REFEREES SMELL A RAT! The Rugby referees don’t know what “loose head” is says the “Manawatu Daily Tinies,” but they don’t like it, anyway! A circular letter was received by the Rugby Referees Association from the English Rugby Football Union, dealing with the enforcement by referees of penalties in general and penalties against obstruction, interference and “loose head” in particular. The letter contended that “loose head” could be dealt, with under the laws of the game dealing with obstruction, and that in the opinion of the Board, “loose head,’’ in all its forms and varieties was a species of wilful obstruction and interference, and must be dealt with.
In the discussion which followed, an endeavour was made, to arrive at a definition of “loose head’’
Mr J. B. Proud expressed the opinion that the letter was merely an attempt to put referees against the wing-forward from start to finish. Mr Campbell stated that it seemed that the writers wanted the A.ll Blacks when in England to play under the same system as the Hdme teams, or else there would he trouble. After further discussion, “loose head” was “received.”
