FARMING NOTES.

At the Wellington wool sale the W.F.C.A. sold on behalf of Mr G. E. Allen, of Tipua, Masterton, three bales of Down hogget wool at 28fd.

Mr W. Sayner, “The Cliffs,” sold six bales of Corriedale wool at the Wellington sale which realised 26|d per lb. This an average of £1 1/ per sheep.

It is stated that the draft on wool had cost New Zealand farmers £93,750 last year. The general opinion is the draft—a deduction made for alleged grease in wool—is a sheer imposition, seeing that tare is in addition deducted from the weight of the bales.

There was a keen demand for Southdowns at the ram fair yesterday. A New Zealand record for flock rams of this breed was established by Mr H. J. Andrew (Maheno), his entry of 39 rams being sold by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., at an average price of £2O per head. Three stud rams were also sold on account of this breeder at from 30 to 71 guineas.

Rabbits are showing up again distinctly in many places in the Wanganui district (says the "Chronicle”). They had rather a set-back last winter, and though there is no considerable rabbit colony in any one place, yet they are very numerous. They have certainly doubled themselves in the roads in certain parts of the country. There are not so many in the Mangamahu district now as compared with the same period last year. Mr D. Munro (Government inspector) told the Wanganui rabbit board promoters that they should employ permanent men to act as instructors in rabbit extermination, for half of the farmers would not know how to go about it if ordered to kill these pests.
