SOUTH WAIKARAPA ITEMS. (Our Travelling Reporter.) Personal. Mr Stace Fuller, of Raglan (Waikato), is at present on a visit to Greytown. A New Bridge. The Wairarapa South County Council is making provision to renew the narrow bridge half-way between Carterton and Masterton. It is to be hoped the structure will be made the full width of the road, and thereby minimise the risk of accident. Swimming Sports. The Carterton Swimming Club will hold its annual carnival at the municipal baths on Saturday afternoon, when a number of outside competitors are expected to take part. The GreytoWn Club is holding its carnival at 6 p.m. the same day. Rivers Swollen. The Waiohine river was in a state of high flood last evening, due to the heavy rain that fell along the Tararuas yesterday morning. Carterton Fire Brigade. At a meeting of the Carterton Fire Brigade, over which Lieut. Matson presided, the following were nominated as vice-presidents of the U.D.F.B.A. ip—Foreman Ashworth (Napier), Lieut. Braggins (Masterton), Lieut. Durran (Lower Hutt), 'Deputy-Super-intendent Mortland (Taihape). A three years’ certificate was granted Lieut. Matson and a two years’ service bar to Firemen J. Lepenski and J. Lineham. A social committee was set up and a report given by Secretary Smith on the business transacted at the Rotorua conference. Going Home. Dr. and Mrs Doctor, of Featherston, accompanied by Mr and Mrs T. V. Wilson, left by motor on Wednesday morning for Auckland, where the former will catch a boat for England. Unsatisfactory. A Carterton dealer recently purchased a line of sheep at the Masterton sale on a Wednesday and entered them for the Carterton sale on Friday. He was greatly surprised to find that an officer of the Agricultural Depart: ment had placed a lice infested ticket ’or the pen, in spite of the fact that he purchased the line as free from vermin.
