There were very good attendances at St. Matthew’s Church yesterday on the occasion of the Patronal Festive!. The Education Board has receive! a Government grant of £222 for science equipment at the Featherston Dist.lct High School. A confirmation service will be conducted by Archbishop O’Shea at St. Patrick’s Church, Masterton, within the next few weeks. The Presbyterian sale of work at Greytown on Friday was very successful, netting £l2O 7s for the Presbyterian manse fund. It was stated at a meeting recently that 15 or more residents in Featherston district were going on a visit to England early next year. It i s expected (says the Greytown “Standard”) that several patients from Greytown will attend the Hickson mission in Palmerston North nex| month. A well-known dairy factory secretary of Dannevirke is stated to be an applicant for the position of representative in England to the New Zealand dairy producers. The opening luncheon in connecc’un with the New Zealand Club will take place to-morrow." Mr N. When halfway home, his engine slowly and quietly become stopped. An examination disclosed the fact that thb copper feedpipe of the vacuum tank had snapped with the jolts on tho road. A tow home, after a long wait to get an S.O.S. message to Masterton, seemed to be inevitable, but with that resourcefulness which characterises tho old campaigner he managed to get himself out of the hole. A couple of inches of the tubing of the engine tyre pump securely joined the ends of the broken feed pipe. With a long tube of his engine pump he was able to suck up enough juiee from the benzine tank to flood the dry carburettor and the trouble was over.
