A GOLDEN RAM.

SOLD FOR 340 GUINEAS. TO PERCY BROTHERS. Yesterday’s ram fair was notable for the keen competition to’ good ani mals, culminating in a record price being obtained. Amount the stud sheep put. up was a --tooth Romney rani bred by Mr Percy Southey (manager for Mr Bland Raynor). It had been entered in the show (class 17), where the judge [>'■ -ed it second to a Penrose animal. T--"- Vc.-y good judges yesterday thought differently. "It i. the best deep that’s gone through the ring,” remarked Mr Tanr r, the well-known Hawkes Bay breeder, aud he backed his opinion in £-■' bids. Mr ’.Vm. Rayner held the s..me opinion, and he too joined in the competition. Yet another very sound authority, Pery Brothers, of Te Gm Ore, had their minds set on securing the ruin, and the bidding soared steadily up to 106, 200 and then to 30C guineas. Still there were two bidders left, and finally Percy Bros, got the prize at 340 guineas. This is a record price for the Wairir. i. i ate, also, it is believed, for New Zealand. The highest price recorded here before was also paid by Pc'ey Brothers. It was before the war, wh a Lincoln wool was more in favour, and they paid 290gns for a ram of that breed bred by McMasters .'Lower Vailey). The golden ram of yesterday, whi'-h W.-. 1 autelcned by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Ag.ncy Co.. I, is describe! by Mr A. Percy ns well clad sheep with a wonderful carcase.”
