SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.

(Our Travelling Reporter.) During the next week shareholders of dairy companies will ,e called together to discuss the Dairy Produce Export Co'.t ’el Rill. The child Douglas Richmond, who v.as killed at. Hastings through fulling from a fire brigade motor engine that his father was driving, was a grandson of Air T. Richmond and Air F. A meeting open to all farmers is to be held in the Dalefield buildings, Carterton, this evening, under the auspices of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, when addresses will be delivered by Messrs P. J. The headmaster reported to the monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee that the average attendance for the quarter was 285 in the primary department and 59 in the secondary. The roll num?.er at present was 325 primary and 64 secondary.

The Carterton School Committee has been informed that about £7OO is available for expenditure for additions and renovations to the old school, which has been erected for over 30 years.

After a short illness the death occurred at Carterton on Alon day of Airs Harriet Ann Parker, in her 59th year. The deceased, who was.greatly respected for her many good qualities, was a daughter of the kite Air G. Stevens, tn early settler of the AVairarapa. She leaves a family of four daughters (Airs E. AL Smith, of Rhodes.street; Mrs E. Hurley, • Clareviiic; Airs S. Morrison, Danncvirke; and Aliss K. Parker, Carterton). One son met his death by accident several years ago and the second lost his life while on active service. The funeral will leave the residece of. Airs Smith, Rhodes street, at 1.30 p.m. to-day for the Clareville cemetery.

The Carterton .showgrounds are just now looking at their best. Wifli the added appointments and promised attractions the annual gathering to bo held this month should prove worthy of the district. Those who have not made their entries shou’d do so at once.
