Mrs and Miss Patsy Lord have returned from .Wellington.

Mrs Major and Miss M. Brown .have returned from a visit to Napier. : Nurses A. O’Sullivan and H. E. ] Maher resigned their positions on the staff of the Palmerston Hospital. i Ninety-five women Justices of the Peace are gazetted in New South Wales. i — Miss Gwitha Shand lias left Christchurch en route for Honolulu, where she will compete in the swimming race for the world’s championship, Mrs Phillis Newbury, the Australian contralto, who is touring New Zealand, was knocked down by a motor car in Auckland and had to be taken to the hospital. She is reported to be making a good recovery.

Queen Mary is sending to the Adelaide Corporation a pair of artistic candlesticks bearing the monogram of William IV. and Queen Adelaide as a further contribution to Adelaide’s collection of articles belonging to Queen Adelaide.

The wedding was celebrated at Te Aute of Joyce, only daughter of Canon and Mrs Williams, of Pukekohe, to the Rev, E. C. Cross, D. 5.0., M.C., headmaster of Christ’s College, Christchurch. His Grhce Archbishop Julius officiated. The bride was given away by her father, and attended by six bridesmaids, Misses Kiore King, Mary Warren, Peggy Lane, Kitty and Jaqueline Ormond, and Clemency Williams. Mr John Harris, head prefect of Christ’s College, was best man, and Master James Williams, groomsman. After the ceremony about 200 guests were entertained at the home of the bride’s parents.

The many friends of Mis Peter Webb, o£ Crosby Terrace, Wellington, will regret to hear of her death after a long illness. Mrs Webb was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs R. Holmes, well-known early residents of Wellington. Mr Webb, who died about two years ago, was also a member of an old Wellington family, and was Deputy-Controller and Auditor-General (New Zealand Government) for a considerable number of years. Mrs Webb was an accomplished musician, and was contralto soloist in the Choral Society, which was under the leadership of Mr Robert Parker in the early days. She was also a valued member of St. Peter’s Choir for a great number of years. Mrs Webb leaves three daughters: Miss Doris Webb, Mrs W. Flanagan (Raroa road), and Mrs E. Innes (Lower Hutt). Her brothers are Mr W. Holmes, of Auckland, and Mr Arthur Holmes, of Christchurch. Miss Zoe Holmes and, Mrs W. R. James, of Masterton, a / re her sisters.
