ALFREDTON SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL OUTING. The Alfredton Sports Club he ; d , their annual meeting yesterday. The attendance was not very large, owing , to the unfavourable weather conditions, rain .being fairly continuous throughout the day, making the track a cry slippery and heavy. The secretarial duties were -carried out in- a manner worthy of praise by Mr E. F. Hayes, who, assisted by a number of stewards, spared neither time nor trouble to make the meeting the success it The athletic events were capably handicapped by Mr H. C. Greathead, who also officiated as starter. Messrs J. Bradbury and Purvis Hay acted as timekeepers. The horse events wer judged by Mr AV. D. Watson, who, although the fields were very large, gave every satisfaction to the competitors end spectators. The results are as follows:—. 100yds Maiden.—Carter 1, R. Eagle 2. Grimshaw 3. 100yds Handicap.— First heat: Pook j ("yds) 1, Melrose (9) 2, Terry (8) 3; | time, llsecs. Second heat: Grantham I (6yds) 1, Ferguson (6) 2, Carter (10) |3; time, Usees. Final: R. Poofc 1, • A. Melrose 2, Carter 3; time, 10 3-5 | sees; a close finish. 220yds Handicap.—Melrose (20yds) 1. J. Ferguson (15) 2, Keats (15) 3; time, 24 4-5.. 440yds Handicap.—Keats 24yds) .1, W. Grantham (35) 2, R. Pook and J.’ Ferguson 3. One Mile Handicap.—G. Neilson (155yds) 1, R. A. Roso(scr) 2, A. Graham (160) 3. A good race; won by about 12yds. Rose came up in the straight, but failed to catch the lea-> ing man, who finished well. Relay Race.—Masterton (R. A. Ro.-e 880, G. F. Neo,lson 440, J. Bradbury 220, R. Pook 220) 1; Eketahuna 2; Pahiatua 3. The race of the day. The result was very uncertain about halfway, when Masterton began to show their superiority, winning easily.
