TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

REMITS FOR CONFERENCE. A general meeting of the local Teachers’ Institute wa s held in the Technical School on Saturday, the president, Mr F. L. Combs, M.A., occupying the chair. The following remits to conference were passed (1) That in the classification of Technical School and Manual Training teachers under the heading of “Professional Attainments,” a definite number of marks be allocated for City and*Guilds of London and British Board of Education certificates in theoretical and practical subjects, e.g., for a full technological certificate of the City and Guilds, 12 marks; each advanced or final certificate, 4 marks; elementary certificates, 1 mark each. (2) That the non-possession of an academic degree be not a bar to admission to the professional division iu the case of technical and manual training teachers who possess certificates in the honours stage of science, art and technological subjects. (3) That the maximum teaching hour s per week be- 25 in all subjects in technical school and manual training classes, and that hours tn excess of the above be classed as overtime, even: ng hO’Uns to count time and aquarter.*

(4) That the- Education Department or Board defray the cost of the rural delivery of mails to schools.
