MR. F. M. B. FISHEE.

The cablegrams yesterday contained a rather strange message regarding the candidature of Mr F. M. B. Fisher, formerly M.P. for Wellington, in »i British electorate. Since going to England seven or eight years ago Mr Fisher has made several attempts to enter politics. On the flrst occasion, in September, 1919, he stood for the Widn.es seat as a Unionist in opposition to Mr Arthur Henderson, one of the leading Labour leaders of Great Britain and by no means an extremist. Mr Fisher's candidature then was rather spoiled by the fact that an ex. member of the N.Z.E.F., who was in Lancashire, furnished his opponents with particulars of Mr Fisher 's political career in New Zealand. Apart from that he was up against a very strong opponent, and needless to say he lost the contest. Two or three months ago Mr Fisher was again nomi-nated—-this time for a Lincolnshire seat in the anti-Waste interest—hut he does not appear to have gone te the poll, for the cabled result of the election made no mention of his name. Now he has offered himself to the Labourites of all parties, and in a Scottish constituency at that. What views he expressed arc not set forth, but we are told that they were 1 ‘ unsatisfactory and over-moderate." This might well be, for it is notorious that the Bolshevik elements in our have their chief strength in Scottish labour circles ,and particularly in the Clydeside district. We hope that Mr Fisher will soon find a political niche to fit his undoubted abilities.
