THE U.P.L.L.P.
The new political coalition known for short as the U.P.L.L.P. lias commenced t? function in the Wairarapa. The adoption of Mr J. W. Card as candi date for the Wairarapa seat is its first fruits. According to the “Daily News,” a meeting was held in Featherston on Thursday night. The chaunian stated that he had been asked by Mr Wilford to convene it, and that similar meetings would be held elsewhere in the Wairarapa, delegates from them all meeting at Carterton. Thereafter addresses would be delivered by Mr Wilford and Mr Statham. While Martinborough and Featherston have decided for Mr Card, it remains for the other centres in the eleetor.ee to put forward names, and then it seems that the meeting of delegates at Carterton will make its choice. The name of Mr G. Mitchell, M.P., the organiser of the Central Progress League, was also mentioned, and the matter seems to have been put to that gentleman himself. Mr Mitchell’s reply was cryptic. He said that “if a call went to him from the Wairarapa ir would strengthen his hands in Wellington.” Evidently he will have to wait for the meeting of delegates at
Carterton to see whether Wairarapa is going to hold up its hands and call to him to come and help it. It is nine months yet before the election, and a lot of water will run under the bridges before then. i
