OPERATING IN AMERICA. MILLIONS OF DOLLABS STOLEN. (Received 8 p.m.) New York, Aug. 3.—The “World” reports the arrest of Roberto Gibario, charged with the theft of 136,000 dollars of the Russian Soviet’s funds. It. is stated that a shortage of nearly 1,000,000 dollars has been discovered m the Soviet’s funds deposited in a New York bank. The police ar? busy hunting down a gang of mail robbers and counterfeiters, whose alleged head fis a man named John Worthington. The peculations total millions of dollars, including nearly 1,000,000 from the Toledo Bank, 300,000 from a Chicago hank, and 3,500,000 from the Council Bluffs (Iowa) Bank. Among the effects of the gang which the Government seized were nearly 500,000 dollars’ worth of its own bonds, which have been identified as part of the proceeds of bank robberies. —(A. and N.Z.)
