COST OF LIVING BONUS.
The Arbitration Court, with sonic trepidation, lias awarded an increased cost of living bonus of 3s per week. This will apply to all trades in the Dominion. The original demand, based upon the, Government Statistician's figures, was for Os per wee?;. It has since lieen discovered that the figures of the Statistician were based upon erroneous premises. The Court, therelore, has awarded a lesser sum. The lime is coming, and is not far distant, when the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction. Instead of there being an increase, there must be a substantial decrease in the wages awards. The fact is that business generally will not permit of the existing wages. There-must, either be a reduction, or an army of unemployed. Tt is for the workers to decide whether there will lie employment or unemployment. Are the multitude of the workers prepared to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the few?
