MASTERTON DEMONBTRATON

Glorious Easter weather heralded the opening day of the United Fire Brigade Association's demonstration in the Masterton Park on Saturday aftefnoon. There was a very satisfactory attendance of the publ'.c considering the attractions elsewhere, and the function proved most successful. Firemen were present from all parts of the North Island, twenty-nino teams in all having entered in the various events. An excellent musical programme was rendered by the Masterton. Citizens' Band. The organising duties were very capably carried out by Mr N. C. C. Shepherd, assisted by an enthusiastic band of workers, and the proceedings throughout ran without a hitch, reflecting much credit upon tho management of the officials concerned. i The following are the results: — One Man Ladder. —Masterton B (H. Braggins), 7 2-ssee, 1; Masterton A (S. Dixon), 7 4-5, 2j Masterton C (C. Cole), 8, 3. This proved to be rather a unique finish, and Masterton's excellent time was commented upon by the judge. There were 20 teams entered for this event. Three Men Event.—Napier A, 45 2-ssec, 1; Dannevirke A, 48 1-5, 2; Spit (Napier), 48 2-5, 3. Eighteen teams entered for tho event. Five Men Hose, Reel, and Ladder. —Masterton, 69sec, 1; Napier, 78, 2; Hastings, 79 2-5, 3. The winning team obtained tho Greathead Shield and £ls in cash. Six 'teams entered for this dvent.

SECOND DAY

NAPIER WINS THE AGGREGATE

The concluding day; of the Demonstration was also favoured with glorious weatherj and there was a large attendance of the public at the Master ton Park yesterday • afternoon to witness the various events. Probably the inclusion of the amateur athletic events in the programme had a good deal to do with the large number of people present. These events proved very popular and most interesting, and were followed with keen attention. W. Candy, tho Wairarapa champion who did so well at the Wanganui Championships, was successful in winning three events. G. Harvey, the Australasian champion, was a competitor in the polevault event, and attempted to lower his record, but was not success-

ful in doing so by a small margin. Tho firemen's events were very interesting, and the rescue competition called forth much applause. The result of the grand ■ aggregate was as follows: —Napier 70, Masterton 63, and Hastings 38 points. Napier therefore wins both tho Memorial and McMillan Shields. Napier also tied with Masterton (36 points each) for the Low Pressure Shield. Hastings and Dannevirke were next with 21 points each. Masterton won the Greathead Cup, and of course tied with Napier in tho Low Pressure Shield. Napier was also successful in obtaining the Leipst Cup, and the Licensed Victuallers Cup went to tho Dannevirke B team. Greytown A, Dannevirke B, Taihape, Hastings A, Masterton A, Napier B, Hastings B, Lower Hutt, Greytown B, Pahiatua, Masterton B, and Lower Hutt B, also competed. Two Men Coupling.—Dannevirke B, 47 l-ssec, 1; Masterton A, 51 4-5, 2; Pahiatua A, 52 1-5, 3. Nineteen othei teams also entered for this event.
