DEATH SENTENCE REDUCED
CROWN APPEALING.
(By Eleotrio Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian-N.Z. Cable Association.) Received Last Night, 7.35 o 'clock. LONDON, Dec. 16. A man sentenced to death at Chester in October last for murdering a thir-teen-year-old girl under revolting circumstances while drunk, appealed to the Criminal Court, which reduced the charge to manslaughter and sentenced accused to tivcnty years' panal servitude, on tho ground of misdirection regarding tho effect of drunkenness on mental conditions. The Crown has now appealed to the * Lords Attorney General, and arguos for restoring the death sentence. It is believed that such an appeal is unprecedented.
