STRIFE INCREASING. " (By Electrio Telegraph.— (Australian-NX Cable Association.) LONDON, Tuesday. The strife in Ireland is reaching the culminating point, and English and American newspapers have sent special correspondents there. The gravest violence would not Burarise the British public. A feeling of horror has been raised 'oy the latost manifestations of the 3inn Fein vendetta. The Times' special correspondent states that this is relentlessly pursued, lot merely against the police, but against everyone judging or giving evidence against the Sinn Feiners or , assisting the Government. He instances a woman in Adare, County Ljimerick, who, because she milked her cow.s during the strike, was dragged from her bed, pulled with a rope along the road, kicked, beaten, and left for dead. She screamed for assistance at a farmer's door, but none dared stir. The Sinn Fein organisation Has more terror and moral power over the country than the Government. The result is the terrible spectacle of the 3ountry on strike against the Government. The polico are compelled to move in parties of at least three, and some* times four or five policemerit are doing a beat. Alone a policeman would not last a night. Hundreds of police barracks have been closed in order to concentrate the men for their protection. The reopening of these barracks is urgently demanded by the local people for the,community's protection, but such is only possible by the use af soldiers. General Shaw refuses to disperse troops in small parties. He has a largo army so disposed as to deal quickly and drastically with any open outbreak without heavy casualties imongst the troops. Irish Unionists appeal for a cessation of repressive measures, especially the prohibition of fairs and markets, , but a vicious circlo operates with everincreasing violence, thus leading Lord French to a further display of Government strength.
