PARAMOUNT The new programme at tho Paracount Theatre includes tho fivo-act comedy drama by Wm. Fox entitled "A Strange Romanw," in which pretty Jane Caprice: has the leading role. The Paralta Company decided for its first great play to take the well-known story "Rose of Paradise," and Bessie Barriscale was selected as leading lady. She scores a triumph in the role of the little country girl who is all the time an heiress, and manages to savo a wrongfully accused man in the nick of time. The cruel plot which is planned by her guardian is frustrat- 1 ed at length, and all enda happily.! The play is full of nr. i f.i«-n----nating touches, and Bessie Barris- i caie is bonny, convincing and wholesomely pretty throughout. Tho highest praise must be given to tho pert'ftly ama«i(ig «/f > '<• loplay of this ' production. Tho hill and forest Bcenos are wonderful. The real strength of tho story lies, however, in the Simple beauty and sterling appeal ot «*•» !••»!•« t>^fti».*« iw» lief in tho goodness of mankind. She wanders through a grim world and brings to its troubles a bubbling spirit of eheerincss. Tho rest of the cast are good, Norman Kerry as the handsome hero carrying off tho honours. This programme will be repeated to-night.
