Mr. B. J. Dolan, tho well-known Napier barrister, ia at present on a visit to Masterton. A memorial brass tablet has been placed in St. Thomas' Church, Newtown, ot tho memory of the late Yen. Fancourt, Archdeacon of Wellington, Major George Crawshaw has resigned his position as secretary of the Hawke's Bay Education Board. He intends entering upon farming pursuits. The Archbishop of Melbourne, Dr. Henry Lowthe Clarke, has announced his intention of resigning his archbishopric in November, 1920, on his seventieth birthday. Mr. Q. Donald, of Featherston, was one of the judges of draught horses at the Canterbury show last week. Mr. C. V. Vallance, of Mastorton, judged the horse competitions. Tho Rev. E. Franklin is at present visiting the Eev. J. C. Abbott, tho Vicarage, Martinborough. Mr. Frankin was formerly Vicar of Eoaeneath, Wellington, and recently a chaplain with tho New Zealand Forces. Major-General Sir Edward Chaytor, K.C.M.G., arrived back in Palmerston North this morning. He will be accorded a civic reception by the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Nash, M.P.) and members of the Borough Council.

News is to hand that Mr. Charles Galbraitli, who was a reporter on the Hastings staff of the Hawke's Bay Herald some years ago, and who joined the Australian Expeditionary Force in Melbourne, was killed in France. He left Australia for tho front with the rank of sergeant-major.

The death occurred in Masterton on Friday last, after a short illness, of Ha McKinnon, youngest daughter of Mr. and, Mrs. W: McKinnon, of Arapawanui, Hawke's Bay. Tho deceased, who was only ten y§ars of age, was a pupil at the Solway Girls' College, and was a great favourite among her fellow-pupils. Mr. J. W. Davies, licensee of the Manakau Hotel, which was destroyed by fire on Sunday week, involving the death of a woman engaged at the hotel, died suddenly on Saturday.
