THE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
The Masterton District High School Committee is of opinion that'the most urgent educational need in. Masterton at the present time is the re-model-ling of the small rooms at the District High School. This opinion will scarcely bo shared liy the general public. It. is certainly not shared by the experts of the Education Department. The District High School building, which was erected over thirty-five years ago,-has very nearly served its purpose. Structural alterations cannot, bring it up to the standard of a modern school. The Education Department/ has acquired an excellent site oj five acres a.t the top of Cole street, and on this there should b<> erected modern buildiiu*, capable of ex I eusion, which would bo ft credit to tho town. It would be little short ot madness to expend further large sums of money up»n the out-of-date." District Hiwih School, It is only a question of lime when itbe school will be disestablished in favour of a l:lio;h School proper. The future needs of Iho borough must be given first consideration, and sentimental prejudice must riot he allowed to stand in the way of educational development.
