STATE CONTROL.
II is refreshing to find a man like Mr J. P. Luke, who has for years boon an ardent No-license advocate, declaring from the public platform in favour of the State control of the liquor traffic. Mr Luke told his Wellington audience that he. knew a lot of temperance people who, since the war, had come to the conclusion that the sooner the Government took control of the liquor interest the better it would be for the country at the present day and for all time. Not only the temperance people, but a jnrge section of moderate opinion, is inclining strongly in favour of State control. In any case, the issue is one which should undoubtedly be submitted to a referendum of the people. The wonder is that the issue lias not long since been placed upon flic ballot paper.
