A drowning accident occured a%Te Aral yesterday afternoon, when three Maori girls lost their , lives. Th'e children, who were pupils qf the" Te Arai K cho'ol, named Eera' : John-.;, ston (12 years), Horiana Turangi ($. years), and Pairua*(B years), weirt; to bathe in the river, and were'&ccom* j pauied by three other girls. I No definite story is told by thq three surviving girls as to how the tragedy occurred, but it if surmised that, the children got. into difficulties in deep water. '. i Upon th© alarm-being given several adults went to their assistance, but the unfortunate girls liad disappear-' ed." The girls were all used to swimming. A search was immediately instituted, but so far only one body has been recovered.
