DAYLIGHT SAVING.
It is most TOgrettaMcj that, in th. dying iiouis <»i uie session, the member lor Caversliam should have seized upon an emergency Bill to introduce his pet hobby of daylight saving. It is still more regrettable that a majority cf tlio members present in the House—and this majority included the member for iMastertou —should have endorsed a proposal that will revolutionise the whole industrial system and impose hardships upon farmers and others without the slightest compensating advantage. The talk about the saving of gas and coal that would be effected in the summer months is unadulterated nonsense. in Eiirope some benefit might be derived where long hours are worked in the production of munitions, and where hundreds of factories are in existence. 'No benefit of this kind would by putting forward the clocks in Xew Zealand. The only thing that would result would be a disorganization of trade. The National Cabinet has unanimously opposed the clause introduced by Mr Sidey into the War Legislation ©ill, and if members wish to retain the Cabinet and pro, vent a political rupture they will require to* exercise creator discretion than they did on Monday night.
