There were stirring scones in the Chamber after M. Briand had nade his statement.

Replying to M. Renaudel, a Socialist, who asked when peace would lib signed, and said Franco should have no idea of conquest, M. Briand, in a fiery oration, declared that France had never been a bird of prey which would crush free people. Peace was still far away. When it was signed, it would bo a solid peace, based on justice and liberty. Tho Deputies cheered M. Briand for several minutes, and it was ordered that his speech be placarded.

A resolution of confidence in the Government was carried by 515 votes to 1.
