TO BE SOLD TO-DAY. We gave some account of the exceptionally fino lot of pictures hy M'- Wm, Goo. Baker, including those iiicli ho originally intended to exhibit in 'Frisco, that are to be orf red at auction by Mr V. L. Fairbrothor at tho Club Hotel sample i ioms at 2 p.m. to-day. They have : i tracted a good deal of interest, *» ;::id form a, really exceptional opportunity of securing fine picture, which will bo .likely in tho ease of the best of those ofFered, to increaao in value as years go on, and therefore to bo a profitable 'investment as well as a present delight. Tho pictures cover many of the beaiuty spots of tho Dominion. Lovers of art havo found much attraction in the display in tho past week. Tho term of inspection, however, has expired, for the whole of tho collection will bo offered for salo hy V. L. Kairbrpther this aftornoon. As ; t is unlikely that the eminent artist (Mr W. G. Thero are many of New Zealand's delightful soenfc as-.--•et& portrayed on canvas in a manner to command wide admiration, whilst the water colours aro also of high merit. Tho artist ha.s imh'ed shown that ho has a close acquaintance with naturo by his faithful depiction of rivers, lakes, woods, and mountains, all of which appeal strongly to the ' aesthetic taste of those who viow the pictures. People who valuo works of art should not miss this sale.'
