Fail-brother will soli by public auction at tho <Jlub Hotel Rooms, Masterton, to-morrow afternoon, a. very choice collection of oil paintings and water-ccloura from tho easel of Mi* Baker. •Mr Baker has long ago acquired a high reputation as an interpreter of Now Zealand landscape, and the pictures which ho has sent to Master ton will servo to cvon onhaucc the good impression which his fine collection at tho Auckland Exhibition made on tho public mind. Now Zealand in justly famcci for Ihe grandeur of her scenery, and to ono can look upon tho pictures, without, feeling that ho givea _ lis truly typical and charftcteristic; touches iu all that ho poiur trays. The dominating feature of his work is that lie delights in warm and generous tints. Tho rosy glow of morn, the bright shafts of sunlight glinting on tho hillside, the mellow huea of evening, are constantly with Mm. There is, too, a_ majestic depth about his forest foliage, and a limpid transluconcy about his rushing water which is eloquent of our mountain torrents.
