A Sydney cable records the death of Mr Frank Badgery, a politician-, and pastoralist. Mr John Drummond, formerly a Stock Inspector in this district, is at, present one'a visit to Masterton. Private Kenneth McDonald, who was among the list of Killed received last week, was a brother of Miss Agnes McDonald, of Brook House, Masterton. Private Edmund McSweeney, son of Mrs E. McSweeney, of Waiorongomai, Lower Valley, is among those who are reported missing at the. Dardanelles. Archbishop O'Shea, now on a visit, to America, will probahly leave Vancouver on his return to New Zealand by the steamer Makura, on Wednesday, accompanied by Dean Tubman. Lieut.-Coloiicl T. V,'. McDonald fa former Mayor of Lower Hutt), who was recently invalided back from Egypt, has been appointed genera! staff officer for the Otago Military District. A well known Canterbury architect and farmer, Mr llo.bt. Boyd, who came to Xew Zealand in 1859, and a. few years later purchased a property at Broadfields, near Prebbleton, died on Thursday last, aged 92. Advice was received in Masterton on Saturday morning that Trooper J. Restin, who is well known in this, district, had been killed in action. Trooper Restin left Masterton with the First Expeditionary Force. Mr John Coradine, solicitor, of Masterton, who has enlisted for service abroad, will go into camp on September Bth. In his absence, his* business will be carried on by Mr "W. Noble, of Wellington, who has joined him in partnership. At AucklandVon Saturday last, M"r Errol iMackersey was, on the motion, of Mr J. R. Reed, K.C., admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Xew Zealand by Mr Justice Cooper. Mr Mackcrscy is leaving Auckland this week, and will go into camp on September 7th. Corporal George Juno, son of .Mr Philip Juno, of Masterton, is among, the list of those who have fallen at the Dardanelles. Before enlisting, he was for a considerable time connected with racing circles in Masterton, and was highly esteemed by those .who knew him. The sad news has reached Mr J. C. Yorke, officer in charge of the Labour Department at Masterton, that his eldest son, Private C. C. Yorke, has been killed in action. The deceased was a member of the Canterbury section of the ExpeditionaryForce. His parents will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their 'bereavement. The death took place on Friday 'at the residence of Mr Johansen, 11amua, of an old resident of the Wai4 rarapa and Forty-Mile Bush, in the person of Mr Hans Julian Ludvigsen. Deceased, who was seventy-seven years of age, leaves a grown-up family, included among whom are Mrs J. B. Russell, of Eketahuna, and MrsJohansen, of Hamua. Word -was received by cable last week that-Mr Oscar Ev Gallie, second youngest'son ot Mr and Mrs J no. Gallie," Wellington, has received his commission in the Royal Field Artillery. Mr Gallie received his military training in the Wellington College Cadets, the Masterton Mounted Rifles, and also served with the 3) Battery in Samoa. At the outbreak of war he was on tlie staff of Dalgety and Co. at Masterton. The friends of Mr James Kobjesoili of Masterton, will learn with deep, regret of the news, which was received by cable last evening, of the death of his youngest son Lance-Cor-poral Robieson, which occurred onone of the hospital ships returning to New Zealand. Robiesoh left Xew Zealand with the firstreinforcements in the Mounteds, and on arrival in Egypt was transferred to the infantry. Early in the fighting at the Dardanelles hie was severely wounded by a- bullet in the neck. He lay in the base hospital at Alexandria for nearly three months, and word was only received the other day that the operation for the extraction of the bullet had been successfully performed, and it was hoped that ho was on, the road to recovery. Tho deceased was well known in Masterton, and also in Wellington, where lie had been for many years in the office of the City Council. He was of a singularly bright disposition and. a keen sport, being associated .with, the Star Boating Club, Miramar Golf Club, tennis, football and other sports. The family will have th«sympathy of a wide circle o£ friendsin their sad bereavement.
