Mr H. H. Street, a well-known judge of Holstein cattle, died at New Plymouth this week. Mr Job Salisbury has been, appointed sexton and ranger to .the Greytown Borough Council. Mr L. Little, of the Bank of Xow Zealand, Woodville, has received notice of his transfer' to the Feilding_ branch. A London cable states that Luietenant Chilton, of the Argyll Suther- i lands, a New Zealander, is reported , as killed at the Dardanelles. Miss Lonergan, the newly appointed District Nurse under the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, enters upon he.v duties on 12th inst. A Melbourne cable states that Lieut. H. Boyle, who was wounded at the Dardanelles, has been promoted to a captaincy. He is the youngest captain in the Empire. Mrs T. Skipage, of Featherston ; lias received news that her brotnei. John Stockbridge, of the "Otago contingent, has recovered from his wounds, and is proceeding to the front again. Advice has been received by the parents of Private G. W. May, who is a son of Constable Joseph May, formerly of Masterton, and who is returning to New Zealand shortly, that lie was shot through the groin, the bullet going right through without touching a vital spot. He had a very narrow escape. Private May also received a bullet hole through his cap A letter just received in Masterton states that Trooper Roy Hawke, formerly of this town, is at present iri the Palace Hotel Hospital. A bullet penetrated his left breast, and passed out on the right side. He bled at the mouth for half an horn*, but is now on the fail- way to' recovery. The letter states that Private Arthur Ward, who has since been reported dead, was shot in the face. The privately-announced information that Sergeant Arthur O'Neale, formerly of Feather ston, had met hi: at the Dardanelles, has been ■'confirmed. The departed soldier was held in very high esteem at Feathers- - ton, where his life had been spent, he being a son of Mr A. E. O'Neale. in old settler of the district, who lately removed to Feilding, and brother of Messrs F. A., H. R., and E. E. O'Neale, well-known residents.
