THE WOUNDED SOLDIERS.
The settlers of the Wairarapa, indeed, the whole of the community, are making a generous response to the appeal on behalf of our wounded soldiers. The appeal'was commenced only about a fortnight ago. Greytown was the first to respond ,with over £7OOO. Masterton followed with £21,500. Then Gladstone came with £4OOO. And now Featherston has produced the magnificent sum of £18,500. Thus, in a week or two, no less than £51,000 has been secured for the fund. Martinborough, Tinui, and other parts of the district have still to be canvassed, and it is hoped that another' £20,000 will be forthcoming. The committee, who have undertaken the canvass of the district, are men who have given freely themselves, and are continuing to give. They are working in a noble cause, and their efforts deserve the success that is attending them.
